What it is for

Nextriv Track GPS logger at an angle — sealed housing with the dark window on top

The cold chain is an environment that destroys electronics: frost, condensation at every door opening, deep cold alternating with the warmth of the loading dock. Nextriv Track GPS does not pretend these conditions do not exist — it was engineered to live in them. The multi-layer sealed IP67 housing in food-grade plastic can lie directly next to food or medicines, withstands -35°C and condensation, and the batteries are swapped in a separate sealed compartment without exposing the electronics.

Its reporting philosophy fits in one sentence: routine data can wait — risk cannot. Normal readings are aggregated and sent in batches, stretching battery life into years; but a temperature threshold breach, a compartment opening (light sensor) or a tilt and shock (accelerometer) trigger an alert immediately. On top of that comes local memory for 5,000 records with retransmission: when the truck drives into a coverage "hole", the measurement history is not lost — it backfills itself once connectivity returns. For an auditor, that means a continuous, complete record of conditions from the warehouse to the recipient's dock.

It is the only device in the Nextriv sensor family that deliberately uses no gateways: it connects directly over the 4G cellular network (LTE Cat.1, its own micro-SIM card), so it works anywhere a truck can drive — with no infrastructure along the way. Each measurement is tagged with an approximate location derived from cellular base stations, and you can follow the shipment's current position live on a map in the Nextriv app — alongside the latest temperature and humidity readings. It is an indicative position (typical deviation on the order of 1 km) — enough to know where on the route the cargo is and prepare for its arrival, but not for precise navigation.

The measurement is of a class that refrigeration audits accept: typical accuracy of ±0.2°C in the range that matters most for refrigeration, and humidity accurate to about ±2% RH. Local logging and transmission are decoupled — data can be collected densely yet sent sparingly, reconciling documentation precision with years of battery life.

Usage scenarios

  • Pharmaceutical transport: a pallet of vaccines travels 600 km under a +2…+8°C regime. A threshold breach generates an alert immediately — with the vehicle's approximate position — so the dispatcher can divert the truck to the nearest cold store before the batch is lost.
  • Fresh and frozen food distribution: from the central warehouse to the store — every delivery carries a complete history of conditions. The "goods arrived thawed" dispute is settled by a chart, not one word against another.
  • Container freight: the light sensor detects the container being opened away from its destination. Combined with the network position and timestamp, that is hard material for a claim or a theft report.
  • Air freight: flight mode disables transmission for the duration of the flight in line with aviation requirements, while the device keeps logging measurements locally and backfills everything after landing.
  • Medical and pharmacy refrigerators across a network of sites: the same logger watches medicine refrigerators in scattered clinics — it connects over the cellular network, so it needs no local infrastructure at all.
  • Transport claims: the accelerometer records tilt and impacts — when cargo arrives damaged, the data shows on which leg and at what time the event occurred, cutting liability disputes short.

Key features

Back of the Nextriv Track GPS with mounting ears

  • IP67 sealing with multi-layer gaskets — resistant to condensation, frost and washdowns; built for cold-store reality, not just "indoor use".
  • Food-grade ABS+PC housing — it can lie directly next to food and pharmaceuticals.
  • A smart reporting strategy: routine readings aggregated (battery savings), risk events — temperature threshold, light, tilt — reported immediately.
  • 5,000-record memory and automatic retransmission once coverage returns — a measurement history with no gaps, with log readout over NFC.
  • 4G cellular connectivity (LTE Cat.1, its own micro-SIM card) — works along the entire route, with no gateways and no infrastructure of your own.
  • Approximate network-based location from cellular base stations, reported alongside the measurements — shipment position visible live on a map in the Nextriv app.
  • A 0–600 lx light sensor as a compartment- or crate-opening detector, plus a 3-axis accelerometer (tilt ±90°, shocks).
  • Four mounting methods with no vehicle modification: cable ties, industrial tape, screws or a bracket.
  • Flight mode with a schedule — compliant with air freight requirements.
  • Replaceable batteries in a sealed compartment (~4.8–5.1 years of operation depending on the transmission mode) plus an internal USB-C port; activation via NFC, USB-C or a button.

In the Nextriv system

Measurements and positions flow into the Nextriv platform over the cellular network in near real time and land on the same dashboards as data from stationary sensors — warehouse and fleet in a single view. Temperature and humidity each take four thresholds (warning and critical min/max): a slight deviation produces a warning for the dispatcher, while leaving the regime raises a critical alarm distributed via e-mail, SMS, web push, MS Teams, Discord or an audible alarm in the app — and the webhooks integration forwards the event to the customer's TMS. Every event has a code, a status and comments — a ready-made trail for resolving matters with the carrier.

The complete route history — including data backfilled after coverage gaps — feeds PDF reports and XLSX/CSV exports that serve as documentation of transport conditions for quality procedures (e.g. HACCP) and settlements with recipients.

Typical deployments

  • Pharma: continuous documentation of medicine transport conditions with an immediate alert on a regime breach — see solutions for pharma.
  • Food and food service: a full temperature and humidity record from the warehouse to the point of serving — more in the solutions for food service.
  • Cold stores and freezer rooms: supervision of chambers and transport in one platform, with compartment-opening detection — check the solutions for cold storage.
  • Warehouses and 3PL: one logger covers storage and transport, with a consolidated report from the cargo's entire journey — details in the solutions for warehouses.
