Monitoring fridges for medicines and vaccines
Nextriv sensors watch vaccine and medicine fridges 24/7 — with escalating SMS alerts, an open-door sensor and PDF reports ready for every inspection.

Sound familiar?
A lost batch of vaccines
Breaking the 2–8 °C cold chain means disposing of products, costs and cancelled vaccinations. A compressor failing on a weekend can go unnoticed.
A fridge door left ajar
The most common cause of deviations isn't a breakdown but a door left ajar after taking out a product. Without a sensor, the temperature climbs for hours.
Staff have patients, not charts
Nurses and clinical pharmacists can't check thermometers every hour. Manual control means gaps in the record and transcription errors.
Inspections demand evidence
Sanitary inspectors and auditors expect continuous documentation of storage conditions. A notebook of readings can't be verified — and increasingly isn't enough.
How Nextriv solves it
Measure product temperature, not air
A probe in a thermal buffer reflects the temperature of the products rather than momentary air swings — no more false alarms after every door opening.
Escalation until someone reacts
If the first person doesn't acknowledge the alert, the platform notifies the next ones — SMS, email, web push, Teams — following an escalation policy with a time limit at every step.
Door and temperature sensor in one
Sense Contact reports every opening of a fridge or medicine store and simultaneously measures ambient temperature and humidity.
Water leak detection
A sensor under fridges and near plumbing detects the first drops — before water reaches equipment, floors or documentation.
Inspection-ready reports in a minute
PDF with charts, statistics and threshold compliance — generated on demand or automatically on a schedule, with a cryptographic signature.
Continuous logging even offline
Sensors buffer measurements locally (up to 4000 records) and resend them after an outage — the audit history stays complete.

The vaccination point is closed until Monday. The rule with four thresholds and an escalation policy keeps working regardless:
- If
The temperature in the vaccine fridge rises above the critical threshold of 8 °C — the compressor has stopped working.
- Then
The platform opens a critical event with an ALM code, triggers the in-app siren and sends a web push and email to the coordinating nurse.
- Escalation 1
No acknowledgement within 10 minutes — an SMS goes to the vaccination point manager.
- Escalation 2
After another 15 minutes, an email and SMS reach the “Management” group and the external refrigeration service contact.
- Escalation 3
The event stays active until acknowledged and resolved — the whole timeline, from the alarm to the comment “products moved to the backup fridge”, remains in the history.
Compliance and standards
EU GDP
Good Distribution Practice guidelines also cover medicines handling in facilities. Nextriv supports compliance with continuous logging, alerts and deviation documentation.
Vaccine cold chain (2–8 °C)
Vaccination programmes require documented maintenance of 2–8 °C. Four alarm thresholds and the full measurement history prove cold chain continuity.
EN 12830
The Probe Solo and Probe Duo loggers are EN 12830 certified — the temperature recorder standard recognised by auditors and insurers.
GDPR
Each organisation's data in an isolated environment (row-level security), TLS encryption, a register of user actions and a permanent data deletion mechanism.
Frequently asked questions
How do I monitor a vaccine fridge in line with the requirements?
Place the Probe Solo probe inside the fridge — ideally in a thermal buffer, so it measures product rather than air temperature. Set four thresholds in the platform (e.g. 2 / 2.5 / 7.5 / 8 °C), and the record keeps itself, around the clock, with alerts on deviations.
What happens if the temperature rises at night or on a weekend?
The alert rule works regardless of the hour: notifications go out by email, SMS and web push, the in-app sound alarm goes off, and the escalation policy passes the alarm to the next people if the first doesn't acknowledge it in time. Once conditions return to normal, the system sends a recovery notification.
Will I know if someone left the fridge door open?
Yes — Sense Contact reports door opening and closing in real time, and a rule can raise an alarm when the door stays open. The same sensor also measures temperature and humidity.
What documents will I get for a sanitary inspection?
PDF reports with charts, statistics and threshold compliance — generated on demand or automatically. You can also export data to XLSX/CSV, and the report can carry a SHA-256 signature with a verification URL and QR code.
