What it's for
In the cold chain, temperature is not a parameter — it's a document. A pharmacy, a pharmaceutical wholesaler and a restaurant kitchen must not only keep the right temperature but be able to prove it: with a continuous record, no gaps, from a trustworthy device. Nextriv Probe Solo was built precisely for that regime: a compact logger certified to EN 12830 — the standard for temperature recorders in the transport and storage of frozen and chilled food — supporting HACCP requirements, with a 4000-reading buffer and automatic backfill of data after every connectivity outage.
Its cleverest trick is the detachable corded probe with an industrial M12 connector. The probe has its own identifier reported in the data — you can take it out for periodic calibration or swap it for a freshly calibrated one without removing or reconfiguring the logger, and calibration traceability stays in the history. Separating probe and transmitter also solves the range problem: the transmitter stays outside the fridge or freezer, and only the steel probe works inside the chamber.
A −40…+125 °C range in a single device covers everything from deep freezers to warm processes, and drift below 0.2 °C per thousand hours means the measurement doesn't "wander" between calibrations. It's a "compliance without excess cost" proposition: a device the size of a matchbox, a battery lasting years, CSV history export and over-the-air firmware updates — instead of paper measurement sheets and loggers priced in the thousands.
Use cases
- Pharmacy / vaccine fridge: the probe immersed in a thermal buffer (an optional bottle with glass beads) reflects the product temperature, not the air. A door opened for 30 seconds stops triggering false alarms — while a real deviation still will.
- Shop or restaurant freezer: the transmitter on the wall next to the chamber, the probe inside through a feed-through. Reliable connectivity despite the metal enclosure and the −20 °C in which the transmitter's electronics never have to work.
- Refrigerated transport: the logger in a delivery van's chamber stores readings locally while out of network range and backfills everything on return to base. The route has complete data, the auditor complete evidence.
- HACCP audit in food service: instead of manual readings written into a notebook three times a day — an automatic history from every fridge and counter, exported to CSV in one move.
- Laboratory / biobank: the range up to +125 °C and low drift also allow supervision of incubators and water baths, not just refrigerators. The button lock guards against "accidental" switch-off.
- Pharmaceutical wholesaler: threshold alarms and a rapid-change alarm on every refrigerated rack; the probe identifier in the data closes the loop on calibration traceability requirements.
Key features

- EN 12830 certification — a device in the "recorder for food and pharma" class, not an ordinary sensor; supports HACCP requirements.
- Detachable probe (M12 connector) with its own identifier — calibration or replacement without touching the logger and without a gap in supervision.
- Wide −40…+125 °C range in one device, ±0.5 °C accuracy across the key −10…+85 °C span.
- 4000-reading buffer with timestamps, retransmission and backfill polling + CSV export — recording continuity for inspections.
- Food-grade 316 stainless-steel probe (50 mm, 1.5 m cable).
- IP67 with a specially sealed battery compartment — survives wash-downs and steamed-up back rooms.
- Threshold alarms and a rapid-change alarm; status LED; button lock against tampering.
- Over-the-air firmware updates (FUOTA) and configuration via NFC — fleet maintenance without service walk-rounds.
- Compact 58 × 65 × 25 mm, approx. 70 g; mounts with screws, a strap or magnetically (accessory); over 8 years on a replaceable battery with fast radio settings.
In the Nextriv system
The platform completes the compliance regime the logger was built for: four thresholds per metric with warning and critical levels, notifications via e-mail, SMS, push, Microsoft Teams, Discord or an in-app sound, escalations when no one acknowledges an alarm, and quiet hours where silencing is a deliberate decision. The calibration register with due dates, certificates and reminders works hand in hand with the probe identifier — a full audit trail from device to document.
The measurement history reaches years back, PDF reports document storage conditions, and XLSX/CSV exports feed quality systems. For places where humidity also decides quality, the same platform supports the two-parameter probe variant: Nextriv Probe Duo.
Typical deployments
- Pharma: vaccine fridges and wholesalers — solutions for pharma.
- Healthcare: medicine fridges in hospitals and clinics — solutions for healthcare.
- Food service and grocery retail: counters, display cases and chambers under HACCP — solutions for food service and for retail.
- Cold storage and logistics: chambers and refrigerated transport — solutions for cold storage.
