Cold room and chilled counter monitoring for retail

One panel for the whole retail chain: counter and cold room temperatures, energy use of refrigeration equipment and an automatic temperature log ready for inspections.

Refrigerated shelves in a grocery store under constant temperature monitoring

Sound familiar?

Counter failure after closing time

A chilled cabinet stops in the evening and by morning all the dairy and cold cuts are waste. Without monitoring nobody knows since when the stock was out of range.

Thermometer rounds in every store

In each store someone writes temperatures down by hand — differently, at different times, with varying care. Head office has no consistent picture of the chain.

No hard evidence for inspectors

An inspection asks for last month's counter temperature history. The notebook has gaps, signatures are illegible — and the store manager carries the responsibility anyway.

Energy bills creeping up quietly

A worn-out compressor draws more and more power for the same result. Without per-device metering nobody sees it — until the invoice arrives.

How Nextriv solves it

24/7 measurement in counters and cold rooms

Sense Industrial has a food-grade IP67 housing, EN 12830 certification and a magnetic variant — installation in a counter or cold room takes moments, no drilling or cables.

An alert before stock spoils

Four thresholds per metric (warning and critical) plus email, SMS, web push, Teams and Discord notifications — you know about a problem within a minute, not in the morning.

The whole chain in one panel

Dashboards and alerts filtered per store — with no limit on locations. Head office sees every counter in every store from a single screen.

Energy metered per device

Control Plug measures voltage, power and kWh of each appliance and alarms on power loss. Compare devices and stores, catch the outliers.

A signed temperature log

Scheduled PDF reports with an SHA-256 signature and a QR verification code — the daily temperature log for inspectors generates itself.

Back of house and supplies under control

Sense Level watches the fill level of dispensers and small containers (e.g. in customer restrooms) — the team restocks exactly where needed.

11:40 p.m., store closed: a chilled cabinet loses power

Two signals combined — power loss and rising temperature — with an escalation that works even when nobody is left in the store.

  1. If

The Control Plug powering the chilled cabinet reports a power loss and the cabinet temperature crosses the 5 °C warning threshold.

  2. Then

The platform opens events with ALM codes and sends a web push and an email to the store manager.

  3. Escalation 1

After 15 minutes without acknowledgement, the escalation sends an SMS to the area manager.

  4. Escalation 2

When the temperature crosses the 8 °C critical threshold, the event escalates to critical severity and the “chain maintenance” recipient group gets an SMS and an MS Teams notification — until acknowledged.

Compliance and standards

HACCP

Continuous, automatic temperature records in counters and cold rooms support HACCP control point documentation in every store — to a single standard.

EN 12830

Sense Industrial and Probe Solo are EN 12830 certified — the standard for temperature recorders in food storage and distribution.

Sanitary inspections

Measurement history up to 5 years and signed PDF reports with a QR code provide credible material for every inspection — no notebook hunting.

Frequently asked questions

Can I monitor multiple stores in one panel?

Yes. The FREE plan covers one location — a good start for a single store. The PRO plan removes limits on locations, sensors and gateways, so head office sees the whole chain in one panel, with dashboards and alert rules filtered per store.

What does the temperature log for a sanitary inspection look like?

The platform records every measurement automatically and keeps raw history for up to 5 years. A schedule generates daily or weekly PDF reports with an SHA-256 signature and a QR code the inspector can use to verify the document's authenticity.

Will I find out about a counter failure outside opening hours?

Yes — alerts run 24/7. A rule can combine temperature thresholds with the Control Plug power-loss alarm, and an escalation policy pushes the notification through further channels and to further people until someone acknowledges the event.

Does installation require an electrician or modifying equipment?

No. The sensors are battery powered and talk over long-range radio to a single gateway per store; the magnetic Sense Industrial sticks to a metal chamber wall in seconds and Control Plug is an adapter plugged into a socket. Configuration is done with a phone via NFC.

How does monitoring help cut energy bills?

Control Plug meters the kWh consumption of each connected appliance. Comparing the same device types across stores quickly shows compressors drawing more power than they should — usually candidates for service or replacement. Measurement history also lets you verify the effect of changes.
