What it is for

Nextriv Sense Industrial was born of a simple observation: most temperature and humidity sensors split the world into "indoors" and "outdoors" — and buildings don't respect that split. A warehouse worker needs measurements in the hall and on the loading dock, a grower in the greenhouse and in the field, an administrator in the server room and in the utility pit. So this sensor got a sealed IP67 enclosure made of flame-retardant, UV-resistant plastic: one device, one setup procedure, any mounting location — from an office wall to a post outside the building.
The second pillar is data credibility, not just data collection. Sense Industrial keeps a local log of nearly 2800 measurements that cannot be manually wiped — a deliberate design decision for audits and disputes: the reading history is inviolable. If connectivity disappears for a while, the sensor keeps measuring and forwards the backlog on its own once the network returns. In practice that means a chart with no gaps — exactly what a sanitary inspector, a pharmaceutical auditor or an insurer demands. EN12830 certification for cold-chain temperature recorders closes the formal side of the matter.
The third pillar is zero maintenance. Configuration and power-on happen contactlessly over NFC from the mobile app — the enclosure never needs to be opened, so the seal stays intact, and commissioning dozens of units is a matter of tapping a phone against each one. The battery lasts for years, the enclosure has a second slot for an optional extra battery, and mounting is a choice: screws, double-sided 3M tape or cable ties.
±0.3 °C accuracy means an alarm set at 8 °C in a pharmacy fridge really does watch 8 °C, while 0.1 °C resolution reveals trends — a slowly drifting cold room is visible long before the threshold is crossed. Radio range of up to approx. 2 km in built-up areas and approx. 15 km in open terrain lets a single gateway cover an entire plant or farm.
Usage scenarios
- Pharmacy chain: one sensor in the medicine fridge and another on the sales floor. During a pharmaceutical inspection the manager exports a continuous, uneditable temperature history — including the night the internet went down, because the sensor backfilled the data from its local buffer.
- Class A office building: dozens of sensors across the floors feed the HVAC automation with real conditions in the zones, not just at the air intakes. The facility manager gets a threshold alarm before tenants start calling that "it's stuffy".
- Food warehouse: measurement points in the dry zone, at the gates and on the outdoor dock — the same model everywhere, because the enclosure shrugs off both frost and driving rain. The storage-conditions report generates itself, ready for HACCP.
- Horticultural greenhouse: sensors strapped to the structure every few dozen metres report the microclimate to a gateway kilometres away. The owner correlates humidity with ventilation settings instead of walking around with a thermometer.
- Server room and utility spaces: one sensor on 3M tape by the rack and another in the switchboard room. A temperature threshold breach on the weekend is an instant notification, not a Monday surprise.
- Museum and archive: stable conditions for collections documented in a log that cannot be "corrected" — an argument in conversations with the conservator and the insurer.
Key features

- One device for indoors and outdoors: an IP67 enclosure in flame-retardant ABS+PC, resistant to UV radiation.
- Tamper-proof local log of approx. 2800 measurements — full data auditability.
- Automatic retransmission: after a connectivity outage the sensor forwards the missed readings itself — gap-free history.
- EN12830 certification — formal approval to act as a temperature recorder in the cold chain.
- Configuration and power on/off contactlessly via NFC from a phone — no opening the enclosure, no cables.
- Second battery slot as standard: an optional second battery significantly extends runtime.
- Three mounting options in the box: screws, 3M tape, cable ties — from a wall to a pipe or mesh.
- Direct triggering of other devices in the Nextriv network (no server involved) — e.g. the sensor switches on a fan by itself.
- Operation across the full -30…70 °C range and 0–100 % humidity — from a freezer room to a boiler room.
In the Nextriv system
±0.3 °C accuracy only pays off with proper threshold handling — and here the Nextriv platform provides four thresholds per metric: two warning and two critical, so the 8 °C alarm in a pharmacy fridge can be preceded by a warning at 7 °C. Notifications go out over six channels (e-mail, SMS, web push, Discord, MS Teams, in-app sound), and escalation policies pass an unacknowledged alarm onward. The platform watches the sensor itself, too: no transmission for twice the reporting interval means an offline status and a notification.
For audits there are PDF reports — including variants with statistics, threshold-compliance sections and a cryptographic signature (SHA-256 with a QR code for verification) — plus calibration reminders with room for certificates. Measurement history reaches back up to 5 years. XLSX and CSV exports feed HACCP records, and virtual sensors average the readings of several points into a single zone-wide metric.
Typical deployments
- Pharma: EN12830-compliant temperature recording — a full, uneditable measurement history at audit time, even after connectivity outages.
- Cold storage and logistics: chambers, warehouses and docks under one watch — the same model indoors and out.
- Agriculture and greenhouses: crop microclimate reported to a gateway even a dozen-plus kilometres away in open terrain.
- Server rooms: a sensor by the rack and in the switchboard room — a threshold alarm instead of a Monday surprise.
