What it's for

A refrigeration chamber and its door are one process but two completely different signals. Temperature tells you whether the product is safe. The door tells you why the temperature is fluctuating — and whether it's a harmless brief opening or a genuine problem with the cooling unit. The Nextriv Probe Pro Duo combines both signals in a single logger: two independent inputs, two interchangeable probes or one probe and a door contact sensor, one set of data with shared timestamps.

The logger is certified to EN 12830 — the standard for temperature recorders used in the storage and transport of chilled and frozen food — and supports HACCP and 21 CFR Part 11. Both probes connect via an industrial M12 connector and are detachable: each one can be removed for calibration or swapped for another without taking down the transmitter and without interrupting monitoring. As a result, a single device replaces two separate loggers wherever they used to be doubled up: on a chamber and its door, at the top and bottom of the same chamber, or across two adjacent refrigeration units.

Two channels mean two measurement histories in a shared buffer of 10,000 timestamped records, with export to CSV and PDF plus retransmission and backfill after every connectivity interruption. Instead of correlating data from two devices with slightly drifting clocks, the auditor gets a single coherent record: the door opened at this second, the temperature moved at this one, it returned to threshold at this one.

Use cases

  • A chamber and its door in one device: channel 1 — a temperature probe inside the chamber, channel 2 — a door contact sensor on the leaf. A temperature spike correlated with a door opening is a routine delivery; a spike without an opening signals a cooling-unit failure. The system tells them apart because it sees both events at once.
  • Top and bottom of the same chamber: two probes in a single large refrigeration chamber or freezer capture temperature stratification. If the top is warmer than the bottom beyond the allowable difference, you know it before the product on the highest shelf goes out of specification.
  • Two adjacent units from one logger: a fridge and the freezer next to it, two display cases side by side — two probes from a single transmitter cut the cost per measurement point in half compared with two separate loggers.
  • A pharmacy and a vaccine fridge under door monitoring: a probe in a thermal buffer reflects product temperature rather than air temperature, while the door sensor documents every opening. A 30-second opening generates no false alarm — because the system sees that it's the door, not a failure.
  • A hot process and cooling alongside it: a channel with a PT100 class A industrial probe monitors temperatures up to +500 °C, while the second channel with a universal probe watches a nearby cooling zone or buffer. One device covers two extremely different points.
  • A laboratory and a biobank with access control: a probe in an incubator or low-temperature freezer, a door sensor on the cabinet leaf — a complete record of the conditions and of when someone reached inside.

Key features

Nextriv Probe Pro Duo — two channels, 3/4 view

  • Two independent inputs (M12, 5-pin connectors) — two interchangeable probes or one probe and a door contact sensor in a single logger.
  • Shared timestamps for both channels — temperature and door opening in one record, with no need to correlate data from two devices.
  • Certified to EN 12830 as well as CE, FCC, RoHS; supports HACCP and 21 CFR Part 11 — a "recorder"-class device, not an ordinary sensor.
  • Detachable, interchangeable probes with an M12 connector — calibrate or replace each channel individually, without taking down the transmitter and without interrupting monitoring.
  • Memory for 10,000 timestamped records, CSV and PDF export, retransmission and backfill after a connectivity interruption — continuity of recording from both channels.
  • Long-range radio connectivity with −137 dBm sensitivity plus direct triggering of devices on the Nextriv network — an alarm from one channel can instantly launch a response without involving the server.
  • 0.1 °C resolution; IP65 transmitter housing, operating range −30…+70 °C and 0–95 % RH — resistant to washdowns, moisture and cold back-of-house areas.
  • Powered by 2× replaceable 4000 mAh lithium battery or from a USB-C 5 V/1 A port; near-field configuration via NFC from the app, remote firmware update (FUOTA), a power button and a status LED.
  • Lifetime of over 2.7 years with two probes or over 3.9 years with a probe and a door sensor (10-min interval, EU868 — depending on configuration).

Compatible probes

The Pro Duo uses the same family of interchangeable M12-connector probes as the single-channel version — the difference is that here you pair two at once across two inputs, choosing each one for a different measurement point. Below are the four most frequently chosen; the full family also includes extreme-range variants and special-purpose probes.

Food-grade probe, PT100 class A. Range −40…+125 °C, accuracy ±0.4 °C. Food-grade 316 stainless steel, 10 cm penetration needle, 1.5 m silicone cable, IP67. For measuring product core temperature in food service and processing — safe in contact with food.

Industrial probe, PT100 class A. Range up to +500 °C, accuracy ±0.4 °C (−50…+125 °C) and ±1.15 °C (125…500 °C). 304 stainless steel, 1.5 m PTFE cable, IP30. For hot processes: ovens, dryers, production lines.

Universal probe, PT100 class B. Range −40…+125 °C, accuracy ±0.5 °C (−40…+40 °C) and ±1 °C (40…125 °C). 304 stainless steel, 2 m cable, IP67. A proven default choice for fridges, freezers and refrigeration chambers.

Door contact sensor (magnetic). Detects opening at a gap of up to 3 cm, 1.5 m cable. On the second channel it documents every chamber opening and lets you tell a temperature fluctuation apart from a routine delivery.

The family also includes a low-temperature PT100 class A probe (−200…+50 °C, ±0.5 °C, 1.5 m cable, IP67) for deep-freeze freezers and biobanks; a pipe probe (−20…+85 °C, ±0.4 °C, with a 46 mm clamp, 2 m cable, IP67) for heating and cooling installations; a temperature and humidity probe (temperature −40…+125 °C with ±0.2 °C accuracy across 0…+60 °C, humidity 0–100 % RH with ±2 % accuracy, 1.5 m cable) wherever humidity also determines quality; and a digital temperature probe (−40…+125 °C, ±0.5 °C across −10…+85 °C, low drift, 1.5 m cable) for long-term, stable monitoring. Any of them can be paired on either of the two inputs.

In the Nextriv system

The platform treats both channels as separate metrics with their own thresholds: four thresholds per metric with warning and critical levels, notifications by email, SMS, push, Microsoft Teams, Discord or in-app sound, escalations when no one acknowledges an alarm, and quiet hours wherever silencing is a deliberate decision. Rules can combine channels — you'll treat a temperature alarm without a door opening differently from one right after a delivery.

A calibration register with due dates, certificates and reminders covers both probes separately — a full audit trail for each channel. Measurement history goes back years, PDF reports document storage conditions, and CSV and PDF exports feed quality systems.

Typical deployments

  • Pharma: vaccine fridges and wholesale warehouses with temperature and door-opening monitoring — pharma solutions.
  • Healthcare: medication fridges with access control in hospitals and clinics — healthcare solutions.
  • Food service: chambers and display cases under HACCP, temperature plus door on a single device — food service solutions.
  • Cold storage and logistics: large chambers with top/bottom measurement or two adjacent chambers from a single logger — cold storage solutions.
  • Laboratories and biobanks: low-temperature freezers and incubators with opening monitoring — laboratory solutions.
  • Manufacturing and processes: an industrial probe up to +500 °C alongside a cooling zone — manufacturing solutions.
