What it's for

In pharma, laboratories and industry, temperature is often hard evidence — yet it is rarely measured the same way everywhere. A vaccine fridge, an autoclave, a cryogenic freezer and a production line are four different jobs and four different probes. So the Nextriv Probe Pro reverses the logic of a typical data logger: instead of a sensor permanently tied to a single range, you get one measurement input and a whole family of interchangeable probes with an M12 connector. One device, one compliance regime — and you match the measurement profile to the specific location.

That puts the Probe Pro a notch above a classic cold-chain logger. The probes span from −200 °C cryogenics to +500 °C and include an industrial version, a food-grade one with a penetration needle, a temperature-and-humidity probe and a low-drift digital variant. Into the same input, in place of a probe, you can also connect a door contact sensor — and the very same logger stops watching temperature and starts enforcing the discipline of opening the chamber. An IP65 enclosure, EN 12830 certification and support for HACCP and 21 CFR Part 11 mean that whichever probe you choose, the record stays a document, not just a reading.

Use cases

  • Pharmacy / vaccine fridge: a universal PT100 probe in a thermal buffer measures product temperature, not air. A brief door opening no longer triggers a false alarm, while a genuine deviation still does.
  • Ultra-low freezer and cryogenics: a class A low-temperature probe goes down to −200 °C, so biological samples, plasma and genetic material are monitored where an ordinary sensor can no longer reach.
  • Sterilization and autoclave: a class A industrial probe with a Teflon cable works up to +500 °C and confirms that the sterilization cycle actually reached the required temperature.
  • Kitchen and food processing: a 316 stainless-steel food-grade probe with a 10 cm penetration needle drives into the product core — measurement aligned with HACCP logic, with no contamination risk.
  • Cold room and warehouse freezer: the battery-powered logger sits on the wall, the probe runs into the chamber through a gland; after every loss of connectivity the device backfills the missing readings, so the log has no gaps.
  • Laboratory and cleanroom: a temperature-and-humidity probe watches both parameters at once, and the data lands in the same reporting system as the rest of the fleet.

Key features

Nextriv Probe Pro — 3/4 view

  • EN 12830 certification — a device in the "data logger" class, not just a sensor; plus CE, FCC and RoHS.
  • One input, interchangeable probes (M12 5-pin connector) — you handle a whole family of measurement profiles with the same logger, and swap a probe or send it out for calibration with no break in monitoring.
  • 0.1 °C resolution and support for HACCP and 21 CFR Part 11 requirements — measurement and record meet the audit regime.
  • 10,000 time-stamped records of memory — at a 10-minute interval that is a multi-day local buffer independent of connectivity.
  • Retransmission and backfill queries — after every break in communication the logger resends the missing readings, so the history stays continuous.
  • Long-range radio connectivity with −137 dBm sensitivity — the signal gets out of cold rooms, freezers and plant rooms where other devices fall silent.
  • Dual power — 2× replaceable 4000 mAh lithium battery or a USB-C 5 V/1 A socket; in a single-channel configuration, over 4 years of operation with a probe and around 7 years with a door sensor (10-minute interval).
  • NFC tap configuration from the app — you upload settings by holding your phone to the device, with no cables and without opening the enclosure.
  • Remote firmware update (FUOTA) — you update field devices without dismounting them.
  • IP65 enclosure, −30…+70 °C operating range and 0–95 % RH, a power button and a status LED indicator — the logger withstands cold-room and wet-zone conditions.

Compatible probes

A single device supports a whole family of detachable probes with an M12 connector — you match the measurement profile to the specific task and swap it in the field without changing the logger. Below are the four most commonly chosen probes, while the full family includes several more specialist variants.

Food-grade probe, PT100 class A. Range −40…+125 °C, accuracy ±0.4 °C. 316 stainless steel with a 10 cm penetration needle, 1.5 m silicone cable, IP67. For measuring product core temperature in kitchens, food processing and goods-in checks — in line with HACCP logic.

Industrial probe (high-temperature), PT100 class A. Operates up to +500 °C, accuracy ±0.4 °C (−50…+125 °C) and ±1.15 °C (125…500 °C). 304 stainless steel, 1.5 m Teflon cable, IP30. For sterilization, autoclaves, furnaces and high-temperature process operations.

Universal probe, PT100 class B. Range −40…+125 °C, accuracy ±0.5 °C (−40…+40 °C) and ±1 °C (40…125 °C). 304 stainless steel, 2 m cable, IP67. Everyday measurement in fridges, cold rooms and freezers — the most versatile variant in the family.

Door contact sensor (magnetic). Detects chamber opening from a distance of up to 3 cm, 1.5 m cable. Instead of temperature, the logger enforces the discipline of opening a fridge or cold-room door — and in this configuration it runs for around 7 years (10-minute interval).

The family also includes specialist probes matched to tougher tasks:

  • Low-temperature probe, PT100 class A: range −200…+50 °C, accuracy ±0.5 °C, 1.5 m cable, IP67 — for ultra-low freezers and cryogenics.
  • Pipe probe, PT100: range −20…+85 °C, accuracy ±0.4 °C, with a 46 mm pipe clamp, 2 m cable, IP67 — for monitoring installations and process loops.
  • Temperature-and-humidity probe: temperature −40…+125 °C (±0.2 °C in the 0…+60 °C range), humidity 0–100 % RH (±2 %), 1.5 m cable — for laboratories, warehouses and cleanrooms.
  • Digital temperature probe: range −40…+125 °C, accuracy ±0.5 °C (−10…+85 °C), low drift, 1.5 m cable — where long-term reading stability matters.

In the Nextriv system

The platform closes the compliance loop around the chosen probe: four thresholds per metric with warning and critical levels, notifications via email, SMS, push, Microsoft Teams, Discord or in-app sound, escalations and quiet hours. A calibration register with due dates and certificates — essential when you pull a probe out for calibration and come back with a new one. History reaching years back, PDF reports and CSV and XLSX exports ready for EN 12830, HACCP and 21 CFR Part 11 audits.

The Probe Pro also works with direct device triggering within the Nextriv network: a threshold breach or a door opening can fire a siren, lighting or another actuator without going through the cloud — the response is instant even during a momentary loss of connectivity with the platform.

Typical deployments

If you need two probes on a single device — for example a probe in the chamber and a door sensor, or two zones in one cabinet — reach for the dual-channel Nextriv Probe Pro Duo variant. If the task comes down to classic cold-chain with a single probe, lighter and cheaper alternatives are Nextriv Probe Solo and the dual-channel Nextriv Probe Duo.
