What it is for

The Nextriv Hub Pro is the universal workhorse of a Nextriv network — a gateway with the computing power of a small server, IP65 ingress protection and power over a single network cable. It is the foundation of demanding building deployments: stable, high-throughput connectivity for dense networks of up to approx. 2,000 sensors, with full radio duplex and support for faster transmission modes. In practice — the default choice wherever the Compact is too little and full outdoor is too much.

The sealed housing and a -40 to +70°C operating range open up spots that ordinary indoor gateways can't reach: the ceiling of an unheated warehouse, a canopy, a building arcade, the edge of a roof. The N-type connector for an external antenna lets you run the signal out to a mast with a fibreglass antenna and cover the grounds around the site — car park, shelters, storage yard — without investing in a dedicated outdoor gateway.

Installation is deliberately trivial: the whole unit runs on PoE, so one network cable is enough — power and data together, no electrician and no new circuits. A typical draw of 2.9 W leaves headroom in the PoE budget, and status LEDs for every module (power, system, radio, Wi-Fi, LTE, Ethernet) let you diagnose the device on the spot, without a laptop.

Functionally, the Pro has everything the Compact has — a network server with codecs, multicast, over-the-air sensor updates, gateway fleet mode, BACnet/Modbus integrations, a Python SDK and Node-RED — plus Gigabit Ethernet, a stronger 64-bit processor and DDR4 memory. These are the gateways the most serious building deployments are built on: from air-quality sensor networks in classrooms to early water-leak detection systems in high-rises.

Usage scenarios

  • Class A office building: the gateway on a technical ceiling, powered from a PoE switch — zero additional electrical work. It serves climate, occupancy and leak sensors on every floor and exposes the data to the BMS over BACnet/IP.
  • Residential high-rise: a network of leak sensors at the water risers reports to a single gateway. A leak alert reaches the technical team within seconds — before the water makes it one floor down.
  • High-bay warehouse: the gateway in the unheated part of the facility (operation down to -40°C); temperature sensors watch the storage zones, and the loggers in the cold rooms report for HACCP documentation.
  • Hospital and medical facility: cold chain monitoring for medicines — the gateway collects data from pharmacy fridges across an entire wing, and alerts reach the pharmacists before the temperature drifts out of range.
  • University campus and library: occupancy and air-quality sensors managed in groups — multicast switches the operating mode of devices across the whole building with a single command, e.g. to a weekend schedule.
  • Grounds around a plant: an external antenna on a mast covers the car park, shelters and storage yard — the IP65-rated gateway works under the eaves and serves the sensors outside.

In the Nextriv system

In the Nextriv platform, the Hub Pro is the gate through which an entire site reports — and it is supervised itself, too. The gateway status widget shows its state on the dashboard, and if the device stops reporting for 15 minutes the platform marks it offline and immediately alerts the administrator over any of six notification channels: email, SMS, web push, MS Teams, Discord or an audible in-app alarm.

Sensors connected through the Pro get the platform's full capabilities: automatic discovery of new devices (30–180 seconds), four-threshold alerts on every metric with event deduplication, dashboards with nearly 20 widget types, plus PDF reports and XLSX/CSV exports. Over-the-air sensor firmware updates mean that once it's mounted on a technical ceiling, nobody ever has to go back up there.
