Carbon dioxide is heavier than air — in a winery, fermentation cellar or storage chamber it doesn't rise to the ceiling but silently settles along the floor, exactly where people work. You can't see it or smell it: without a sensor there is no warning signal at all. And typical CO₂ sensors are office devices — they won't survive a cellar's damp, a produce store's frost or outdoor mounting. Nextriv Sense CO₂ Industrial was built to close that gap: a CO₂ concentration sensor made for harsh conditions, with a sealed IP65 enclosure, operation from −30 to 70 °C and a battery that lasts up to 10 years.

Four measurements work inside one enclosure: CO₂, temperature, humidity and barometric pressure. For a fruit store or greenhouse that's a complete picture of the atmosphere from a single mounting point — instead of three separate devices, three batteries and three lines in the maintenance plan. The CO₂ measurement itself is performed by a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensor — the same class used in laboratory instrumentation: stable for years and supporting calibration, so readings don't "drift" over time.

It's a device with a dual nature. On one hand, an optimisation tool: CO₂ enrichment for crops, controlled-atmosphere storage, demand-controlled ventilation. On the other — a safety sentinel that raises the alarm before the concentration in an enclosed room becomes dangerous to workers. In fermentation rooms, sensors are mounted low, by entrances and walkways — exactly where the heavier-than-air gas forms a floor-level layer and where people pass.

The 1000-entry local memory with retransmission guarantees recording continuity — important wherever the atmosphere's history serves as evidence — and phone-based NFC configuration means commissioning a sensor on a mast or under a cellar ceiling takes minutes.

Use cases

  • Winery during fermentation: every tonne of must gives off tens of kilograms of CO₂, which pools at the cellar floor. A sensor above the working zone raises a threshold alarm before a worker descends into the invisible gas layer.
  • Controlled-atmosphere apple store: the right proportion of CO₂, temperature and humidity can extend fruit freshness by months. One sensor watches all the parameters at once and reports every deviation from the chamber's recipe.
  • Greenhouse — CO₂ enrichment: on sunny days plants can "eat" CO₂ from the air faster than ventilation replenishes it, and the falling concentration slows photosynthesis. The sensor helps keep the level optimal for yield — without burning gas to excess.
  • Craft brewery: the fermentation and lagering rooms are small, airtight spaces with continuous CO₂ production. Constant monitoring with a remote alarm replaces occasional manual measurements and satisfies health-and-safety inspections.
  • Industrial facility ventilation: the CO₂ reading as an air-quality indicator lets you modulate air-handling units — ventilation works as hard as needed, not the way it was set once and forever.
  • Halls, garages and plant rooms: places where a sensor must endure dust, damp and low temperatures — exactly what the IP65 enclosure was made for.

In the Nextriv system

Four thresholds per metric map health-and-safety logic directly: the CO₂ warning threshold triggers a yellow alert and a notification to the foreman, the critical threshold a red alarm that escalates until someone confirms a response. Notifications go out in parallel via e-mail, SMS, push, Microsoft Teams, Discord and an in-app sound; the webhooks integration can pass the event to ventilation automation. Every alarm has a code, a status and a full handling history — audit-ready material.

The same readings that protect people also guard product quality: the dashboard lays out the chamber's CO₂, temperature and humidity on one screen, while PDF reports and XLSX/CSV exports document the storage conditions of each batch. The measurement history reaches years back, so comparing seasons or chamber recipes requires no extra record-keeping.
